Medical School Applicant Background Information

The following checklist of materials, when sent in advance of the Mock Interview, Strategy Session or Writer’s Block Package, allows Dr. Finkel to provide individually tailored advice for applicants to medical school. Those applicants able to send all or most of these items will benefit from more specialized and case-specific recommendations.

Please be assured that Dr. Finkel knows that candidates who are developing an early strategy in order to apply to medical school in several years will not have all of the below yet. The advantage of planning early outweighs the lack of these materials. In these cases, applicants should send what materials they have.

Please note that all documents must be in Word except transcripts and test scores, which may be left in PDF form.

a. College transcript (unofficial copy okay)

b. AMCAS GPA calculation (BCPM, AO and Total). See here for how to calculate your AMCAS GPA numbers. (You do not need to send your calculations with your background – just the final numbers.) If you believe your AMCAS GPA might change with current coursework, please also send your projected AMCAS GPA calculation and label clearly.

c. MCAT scores (unofficial copy okay)

d. AMCAS or Curriculum Vitae (first drafts okay; in Word format only, convert the AMCAS to Word if necessary)

e. List of potential recommendation letter writers & academic position (in Word format only)

f. Personal Statement(s) (first draft okay; in Word format only)

g. In which year’s application cycle do you plan to apply?

Items must be sent to insidermedical@gmail.com at least 72 hours prior to your conversation with Dr. Finkel.
