The following checklist of materials, when sent in advance of the Mock Interview, Strategy Session or Writer’s Block Package, allows Dr. Finkel to provide individually tailored advice for applicants to fellowship programs. Those applicants able to send all or most of these items will benefit from more specialized and case-specific recommendations.
Please be assured that Dr. Finkel knows that candidates who are developing an early strategy in order to apply to fellowship in several years will not have all of the below yet. The advantage of planning early outweighs the lack of these materials. In these cases, applicants should send what materials they have.
a. Curriculum Vitae or ERAS Fellowship (first drafts okay)
b. USMLE/NBME/COMLEX scores (unofficial copy okay)
c. Potential recommendation letter writers & academic position
d. Personal Statement (first draft okay)

Dr. Finkel is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Medical School. On completing her residency at Harvard, she was asked to stay on as faculty at Harvard Medical School and spent five years teaching at the world-renowned Massachusetts General Hospital. She was appointed to the Assistant Residency Director position for the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency where she reviewed countless applications, personal statements and resumes.
