Check out these Useful AMCAS Links

I mentioned in the last couple of blog entries the great utility of the AAMC webinar on April 14 called “Navigating the 2027 AMCAS Application Cycle for Applicants,” and I summarized some of the most important points.

One of the additional benefits of the session was a listing of useful online resources. I collected them and have listed them below. Enjoy!

A Valuable Tool: AAMC Webinars

The AAMC offers a variety of recorded premed webinars on their website here, including current topics like “2025 MCAT Testing Year Update for Examinees,” “Preparing for the MCAT Exam,” and “Learn about the 2024 AAMC Fee Assistance Program.”

They also have comprehensive information about the Fee Assistance Program (FAP) here. Please remember that the AAMC recommends applying for an FAP waiver prior to taking the MCAT.

With regard to my services at Insider Medical Admissions, premed applicants demonstrating financial hardship through a current AAMC FAP grant may be considered for reduced rates. Please contact me for more information.

AAMC MCAT Prep Workshop – November 8

The AAMC is offering a free webinar “Preparing for the MCAT® Exam” on November 8 at noon PST/3 PM EST. They’re publicizing that the session will include tips for creating a study plan, low-cost prep resources, a demo of their free MCAT Contact Outline Course, and time to ask questions. You can register here. (You will need to create a free AAMC account if you don’t have one.)

As an aside, if you believe you qualify for the AAMC Fee Assistance Program (FAP), make sure to apply for it early. This year’s deadline is December 8. The FAP covers the MCAT, but the grant is not retroactive.

Fee Assistance Program

As the 2019-20 medical school application process ramps up, I want to remind candidates about the Association of American Medical Colleges’ (AAMC) Fee Assistance Program (FAP) and Insider Medical Admissions’ available discount for those with a current FAP. The FAP is designed to offer help to individuals with financial limitations who cannot pay the MCAT registration or AMCAS application fees without financial support.

If you think you are eligible, it’s worth applying for an FAP grant early: If an applicant submits his/her AMCAS prior to receiving a decision on his/her FAP application, that candidate will be ineligible to receive the FAP for the AMCAS. In other words, the candidate will not receive a refund.

For more information on the FAP, please click here. I offer reduced rates for applicants demonstrating financial hardship through a current AAMC FAP grant. After researching the issue, I believe Insider is the only medical consulting company who currently supports a discount for FAP grant recipients. (I apologize if I’m missing a company.) Once you have been granted the FAP and thus, can prove receipt, please feel free to contact me for more information.

Time to Take A Reading Break

It’s a stressful time of year for you, pre-meds. (Then again, maybe all times of the year are stressful for your cohort, unfortunately.) Why not take a break from crafting your personal statement, starting your AMCAS activities, gathering your letters of recommendation, studying for finals (and maybe the MCAT), and attending all of your extracurricular activities to read a book? Here’s a piece I wrote that was featured last week on Student Doctor Network regarding great books to read for doctors in training.
